OCT SCANS

An Optical Coherence Tomography Scan (also known as OCT) is the latest in cutting-edge technology to help us look more closely at your retina.

A standard retinal camera (also known as a fundus camera) provides a 2D image of the outer layers of the back of your eye. It gives us a good picture of your general eye health. However, it is limited in what it can show us with regards to the inner layers of the eye and underlying conditions.

Many eye problems can develop with limited or no symptoms until the issue is relatively advanced.

OCT scans enable us to see and analyse all the layers of your eye (including your macula and optic nerve head) which allows us to detect issues early.

Conditions such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration can all be detected before symptoms manifest, allowing us to initiate treatment proactively and help to prevent potential sight loss.
