Jo Padmore is an optician who absolutely loves her job and is very proud of her little practice in the heart of Didsbury village.
Born in Withington Hospital and raised in Burnage, Jo’s future was mapped out at the age of seven, helping at her mother’s optometry practice. Little Miss Padmore was quick to spot that attentive customer service is the key to good business, earning her pocket money as a mini receptionist who smiled and talked a lot, yes, even then!
The clincher, of course, was none other than the revolving optician’s chair (many of hours of fun were spent, spinning friends around until they fell off). Jo simply had to have one – and her fate was sealed.
Jo went on to attain a degree in Optometry And Visual Science (BSc) from London’s innovative City University; before returning to her beloved home ground and completing her pre-registration qualification in 1993 at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, a world-renowned centre of excellence.
Jo worked as a locum for 10 years, before deciding to open her own practice. It was a big leap of faith – and lots of hard work – but she has loved every single minute of it and has never looked back.
When not working wonders for Didsbury’s eyes, Jo’s world revolves around her children, family and friends. She loves yoga, eating in great local restaurants and the odd cheeky glass of rose wine.
